PROFILE OF NANABANYIN ANUMEL

The dynamics of radio are so enormous that it often compels the creative minded industry players, to liken the studio from where all the good music beams, to ingenuity and dexterity on the stage. This is what ideology Nanabanyin held when he entered radio at age 21.

Born in Accra and christened Pita Joseph Nanabanyin Anumel on the 22nd February, 1975 to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph K. Anumel of Fijai West Ridge in Takoradi, Nanabanyin entered radio by fate and orchestration.

In July 1996, Nanabanyin was given the chance after school to do an internship with the Business Department of Radio Gold 90.5FM at Lartebiokorshie in Accra as a Business Development Assistant. Whilst performing this function, he approached the then Programs Director-Kwaku Boafo Agyemang for permission to exhibit his naturally acquired radio skills on air.
That marked the humble beginning point for “Da Nabman” on radio.

Together with Kwame Sefa Kayi, B.B Menson (The Virus) the late Benji Kumasah, Fiifi Banson, Yvonne Andoh and the entire
“Power Station” crew, we held the nation’s capital totally locked on at the Link Road Junction. With both presentation and Deejaying skills at his finger tips, he did everything from production to sit-ins for “Swingers, Kule’s Cool Cut, Green Pastures, Power Drive” etc whiles silently pursuing a penchant for excellence on radio.

Bracing up the challenges of life with it’s attendant stages, Nanabanyin relocated to Kumasi in 1998 having had a stint with the then Groove 106.3 FM at Osu in Accra. The vibrancy, passion for music and resourcefulness in “Da Nabman” propelled him to double as a Night Club Deejay at the then “Matador Night Club” with “Da Woodman”-now with Aphrodisiac Night Club and Deejays “Kakra” and ” Jallow” of Prime Cut Records fame. The Prime Cut exposure really did a lot.

In year 2000, Nanabanyin kept the entire Garden City awake with the “Kapital Journey” on Kapital 97.1FM.He also produced, co-presented “New Waves” with Nana Otu Jandour- now with Radio Maxx in Takoradi and did a lot of sit-ins on the “Bumper to Bumper” as well. All these he did alongside his full time job as a Brand Executive for Fan Milk Ghana Ltd. In 2002 he left radio and concentrated on Groove Incorporated and other academic pursuits only to bounce back as a “Nocturnal” on Luv 99.5FM in 2006 having resigned from Fan Milk Limited.

The “Luv FM Nocturnal Fraternity” was his baby and it comprised of the youth and old “passengers” who believed in the criticisms propounded on the “Luv Night Train” and were ready to correct some wrongs in society. This premise is what led to the dawn clean up exercises at Kejetia (ref page 11 of Daily Graphic, Thursday 11th October 2005 edition), marshalling resources on air to donate to Auntie Yaa-an aged woman who sold roasted plantain in Accra but had no trading capital and subsequently the campaign to get the Amakom Children’s Library rehabilitated. This fortunately has caught the eyes of Lady Julia of Manhyia Palace.

You can call him versatile but Nanabanyin handles every show on Luv 99.5FM with dexterity and his own unique style. With over 10 years experience on radio in a variety of markets, he loves to try new things. For now Nanabanyin anchors the Super Morning Show ,handles Events and Promotions as well, and has been the brain behind virtually every outdoor from Schools’ Reunion, Trendy Pool Parties to our life saving blood donation campaigns held quarterly in our forecourts in Kumasi.

Nanabanyin is happily married and enjoys laughing as much as possible believing in the power of being himself, loving anything that describes life in the pure form and finding joy in each day.
